I’m expecting an entertaining game between two teams who both have a strong offensive lineup with a slightly dubious defense to boast. Although the departure of Jesse Lingard has weakened the Hammers’ offense somewhat, they still have enough talent and firepower to score goals against this Newcastle defense. When West Ham get their offense going, particularly via Declan Rice, they are a formidable opponent for just about anyone. I absolutely expect them to cause this Newcastle defense some real headaches in this game.
In their first game of the season, Newcastle will get to play in front of their notoriously loyal and loud fanbase in the ”fishbowl” that is St. James’ Park. I’m quite fond of the Newcastle offense, particularly Saint-Maximin is a real offensive powerhouse in my opinion. They boast plenty of offensive talent, and a somewhat lackluster defense for the level of the Premier League, similar to West Ham in my opinion. If you glance at Newcastle’s home games from the previous season, you’ll notice that that averaged around 3 goals per game, and that was without their rowdy home supporters behind them. I expect the average to be even higher this season, beginning with this game against a tough opponent in West Ham.
