Martincova has been finding her form ahead of the US open outside of a bad loss to Ruse in Cincinnati she’s performed fairly well including a strong showing against Cristea and made it to the finals in Prague without dropping a set until the final match (she lost to Krejcikova). All of this has earned her a career high ranking and she should be feeling confident. Peterson has had a noticeably bumpier road recently. While she’s performed well against Golubic she’s had some ugly ugly losses including a straight sets loss to Pera and a straight sets loss to world #136 Govortsova. So while Peterson has made some strides I don’t think its enough to get past Martincova who is arguably playing the best tennis of her career.
