Another day, another covid outbreak in the Belgian pro league. Eupen have 14 (!) players and 2 staff members (coach included) out due to covid. Eupen requested to postpone the match but the pro league refused. At the moment, the rules define that a match can only be postponed if seven players or more are absent due to corona who played at least a third of the playing minutes, or if the first two goalkeepers are infected. They also have 3 people out due to injuries. Cercle are missing defender Utkus and midfielder lopes who are both starters. I don't see this as a problem since Cercle won without these 2 against Club Brugge (number 2).
Cercle started off the season really bad but turned it around with 15 out of 18 points in their last 6. Their only defeat coming against the number 1 in the league Union who came out on top with a 90th minute owngoal (end result 3-2).
Eupen was kinda the other way around. They started off better then expected but have since then lost some steam. In their last 5 games, they have 1 win and 4 losses. That one win coming against last placed team Beerschot with a narrow 1-0 victory.
Even when Eupen had a fully healthy roster, i still think Cercle should have the upper hand. With so many players out or having to go into quarantaine and not being able to have an optimal preparation, Cercle should be in control the whole game.
