[Boxing- UK] 5.2/ 20:00 O.Wallin- K.Sokolowski
This fight has been made at the last minute to give Otto Wallin a run out. Wallin has only been beaten once and that was to Tyson Fury. He gave Fury a seriously tough fight and arguably should’ve won via stoppage, since the cut he opened up on Fury was so bad. Wallin has since fought twice but hasn’t really looked impressive since the Fury loss. He hasn’t fought in nearly a year so his team have made this fight to shake off some ring rust.
Sokolowski is great because you know what you’re getting when he fights. You shouldn’t judge him by his record because he has been robbed multiple times and is always game no matter who the opponent. Sokolowski has only been ko’d three times, two of those being over 5 years ago and the other was up against a very good fighter in Kossobutskiy in 2020 who is an excellent fighter and one to watch out for.
There’s no doubt going into this that Wallin is the better fighter and he’s destined for much more profitable fights, however there’s a number of reasons I think this plays out comfortably as a points decision. Both fighters have took this on very short notice and it shows with Wallin weighing in at a career highest, where he’s nearly a stone heavier than his last fight. I also don’t believe Wallin’s power is all that great and I think that showed considering he went the distance with a washed up Dominic Breazeale. I also think Wallin and his team may want him to just get some rounds in here so I don’t expect him to go all out guns blazing looking for a ko. Lastly Sokolowski is a very hard man to take out as he has decent ability himself, offensively and defensively and he has shown over and over again that you’ve really got to be on your game when fighting him.
Overall I think this will be a largely dull affair with Wallin winning most of the 8 rounds and going on to win the fight by decision.
