[Football- Europa League] 14.4/ 18:45 Atalanta- Red Bull Leipzig
The first game between Atalanta and Red Bull Leipzig was an all-out action barnburner which ended 1-1, but in all honesty there should have been more goals scored. Particularly RB Leipzig were quite wasteful with the opportunities they created, and Atalanta was fortunate that they only conceded a single goal in the first leg of this two-leg fixture. RB Leipzig are fairly well-known for their offensive brand of football, they’ll be looking to implement their usual style of play in this game to come away with the win and progress to the next round.
With all to play for, the focus shifts to Atalanta who will return to their home field with hopes of staving off RB Leipzig’s offense, and the only way to do so is to counter with offense of their own. The winner of tonight’s game will proceed to the semi-finals of the Europa League, so there is ample motivation for both teams in this one. Additionally, Atalanta will be without a core piece of their defense who has been injured since the early days of this month, Berat Djimsiti, so we’ll see how that factors in to tonight’s game.
Hopefully both teams, particularly RB Leipzig, will be able to capitalize on their chances a bit better in this fixture and we get a game of entertaining offensive football. If you're into statistics, the first game between RB Leipzig and Atalanta had the two teams with an xG (expected goals) ratio of 2.80 and 2.18, respectively - which highlights the chances that were not taken in that game.
