[Boxing- USA] 17.7/ 23:00 R.Romero- A.Ygit
Lightweight prospect Rolando Romero takes on tricky Swedish southpaw Anthony Yigit. Romero comes into this with 11 ko’s, he fights aggressive, throwing a lot of hooks and straights. Yigit is a former world title challenger, who has a few good wins on his resume and has good boxing skills however, he hasn’t fought in over 2 years.
Romero fights with a do or die mentality, he throws heavy shots constantly but leaves himself open quite often, so far in his career though his power has been the difference in nearly every fight. Yigit on the other hand doesn’t have much power, with just 8 ko’s. He also likes to fight on the front foot, going toe to toe with his opponent, which I think will be costly against Romero.
If this was the Yigit of three years ago I would not be tipping a Romero ko, however there are a number of reasons why I’m confident in Romero getting the stoppage. Yigit has accepted this fight on two weeks notice and he’s been inactive for over 2 years. Yigit starts acting school later this year and has stated that boxing is no longer his main priority. This fight is 12 rounds and Yigit has even questioned his own conditioning. At the weigh-in, the Swede had negative body language and came in 5 pounds over weight.
Romero has knocked out every southpaw he has faced so far in his career and I’m expecting him to add to that list tonight against a fighter who has his heart set on a future outside of boxing.
