[Football- England 'Premier League'] 8.4/ 21:00 Newcastle- Wolverhampton
Recently Newcastle have once again made St. James' Park into a daunting place for opposing teams to play at. Going on a fantastic run of form prior to dropping their last three games in the Premier League.losing only to Manchester City, Arsenal, West Ham since December 2021. Although Newcastle's offense has struggled somewhat as of late, they have also faced some very tough opponents. They will need a good run of form to ensure that they avoid any flirting with the relegation zone, which should be ample motivation for this fixture. Newcastle are impacted by a slew of injuries and illness, most of them long-term, but their offense should still be able to pack a punch. I expect Newcastle to be able to square away a goal against Wolverhampton today, and hopefully return to the form they were having prior to the previous three fixtures. Four of Newcastle's previous five home fixtures have seen both teams scoring.
Wolverhampton on the other hand have had a mediocre season, although they are still very much in contention for a top-5 finish and European football for next season, assuming they are able to get some more wins under their belt. They will be forced to play without offensive dynamo Raul Jiménez for this match due to a suspension, but Wolverhampton have shown themselves to be capable of scoring with little to no involvement required from Jiménez. I'm hoping that Newcastle will be able to return to form against Wolverhampton at home, but I also expect Wolverhampton to put up a real fight and get a goal of their own.
Both teams have ample motivation for this game, for Newcastle avoiding any contact with the relegation zone, and for Wolverhampton a chance to climb ever closer to those coveted European tournament spots in the top-5. I could see this ending 1-1, a very common scoreline historically speaking for this game. This fixture has seen both teams scoring in 13 of the past 13 Premier League fixtures between the two sides - not a statistic that I would usually give much weight to, but a fun fact nonetheless.
