[Boxing- USA] 24.6/ 23:00 C.Adames- J.Williams
This fight is for Adames’s ‘interim’ middleweight title. He should really be fighting for the real thing now but Charlo somehow gets away with fighting nobody for 2 years. The middleweight division right now is easily the weakest in all of boxing but I think Adames could be the best there is. He got a very good win over Derevyanchenko and stopped a number of other opponents much earlier than the likes of Charlo and Zayas. Williams was a former title holder who to me is someone that is a bit of an overachiever.
I see this being a demolition job by Adames. He’s in the best form of his life. He seems to have serious power at middleweight. In his 22 wins, 17 of them have came in the first 6 rounds. Williams hasn’t looked the same since being stopped by Rosario in 2020 and since then has been beaten on points by a journeyman who’d previously been stopped twice. Williams also won a 10 round decision over a 37 year old nobody who has been stopped 5 times and had an overall record of 18-12-1.
Stylistically Williams will always end up getting into a firefight and this will be his downfall against Adames. Williams doesn’t really work well off the backfoot and like against Hernandez, the journeyman who he lost to, he allowed him to get on top of him and Williams hung on the ropes for way too long. Williams footwork is very clunky and his body movement overall is slow. Adames speed advantage will be clear from early on. Adames carries serious power and with Williams questionable chin late on in his career I wouldn’t be surprised to see it end very early. I don’t see this going past 8 rounds, I think the levels are too far apart now and we’ll see Adames get an early stoppage.
