[Football- Norway 'Eliteserien'] 1.7/ 18:00 Valerenga Oslo- Viking Stavanger
Vaerenga fired Dag-Eilev Fagermo after their last league match lost 1-0 at home to Stromgodset (assistant coach Jan Frode Nornes was promoted to interim coach). The loss dropped the Oslo team to fourth from bottom in the standings, just one point clear of the relegation zone. So the situation is uncertain for the well-deserved Oslo club, which, as every year, has much higher goals than fighting for relegation. After Dag-Eilev Fagermo had to leave, "Enga" defeated the small club Stjordals-Blink in the Norwegian Cup 5:0. Of course, an expected victory, but important that it was high and confident after the change of coach. Valerenga has an interesting team with a mix of experienced players (Henrik Bjordal, Stefan Strandberg and Mohamed Ofkir) along with interesting talents (Seedy Jatta, Odin Holm and Jonas El Abdellaoui from 2006).
The team from Stavanger beat Brann Bergen 3-1 at home last weekend and are in a high 4th place in the rankings. This week, however, they struggled incredibly in the cup match against Raufoss (the weakest team in the 1st division) for 120 minutes...... losing on penalties. Key defender Djibril Diop picked up an injury in an already weakened defensive formation (now up to four players in this formation can be "outside").
The statistics of these teams' mutual games in Oslo are even (in the last ten matches in the capital, VIF won four times, Viking has three wins, and three matches ended in a draw). All of Valerenga's problems may not have been resolved after the departure of Dag-Eilev Fagermo, but Jan Frode Nornes made a good start as VIF's interim coach. In fact, he played against a second division team and it will be much harder to beat the Vikings today. But at Intility Arena, anything can happen today.
