[Football- Euro U19] 3.7/ 18:00 Poland U19- Portugal U19
There is no denying that the young Portuguese are strong favorites to win this match. The sports level of our youth teams in comparison with teams from Płw. Iberian has always been and still is, unfortunately, much lower. There is no time and place to write about why this is so and look for reasons, but it is an indisputable fact. That's why today, unfortunately, I don't give our boys much chance in confrontation with a team that is a candidate to win the whole event. Although almost half of the players appointed by Marcin Brosz are players with foreign club affiliation (Aston Villa, Birmingham, Hellas Verona, Bologna, Blackburn Rovers, Parma, Spa or AS Roma), let's not delude ourselves that these are players with any influence on the results of their first teams. As it is well known, not all that glitters is gold and often the place of residence or leotard do not prove quality. Five years ago, the Elite Round tournament in Lower Silesia in Legnica and Głogów was the best example of this. Our U-17 team had peers from Ireland, Macedonia and Georgia as rivals and it was enough to take second place there and go to the finals. Having the advantage of home fields, it could not withstand the pressure, even playing with Macedonians or Georgians. In the last match, it was enough not to lose against the second-suited team of Ireland, which had already secured promotion. It ended with a sad 0:1. Perhaps the tournament in Malta will create a name in our national team. A lot of good things are said about Tomasz Pieńko from Zagłębie Lubin. Players such as Aleksander Bobek and Mateusz Kowalczyk showed their good side in the fight to return to the Ekstraklasa, representing ŁKS, although I do not expect it to be enough to establish an equal fight with Portugal. It is impossible to get the impression that our current 19-year-olds running after the ball, regardless of club affiliation, nevertheless grow up football much later than it used to be. I immediately remember Wojtek Kowalczyk who has already scored goals for Legia in the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup Sampdoria Genoa and Manchester United. It is in vain to look for similar cases in the current squad. Today, one matures as if later, maybe also because today young people get more on a platter in various aspects, also thanks to the possibility of leaving for the West earlier.
In general, I expect a very tough game for our team, maybe we won't even be able to score. I think Portugal will win this match decisively.
