[Tennis- ATP Mallorca] 28.6/ 17:00 F.Lopez- J.Thompson
Out of respect for Feliciano, I will take a closer look at his last match in his career, because he was not allowed to end this beautiful adventure with tennis on Wimbledon courts. They will crown it in beautiful Mallorca, i.e. in their homeland. Feli was not a player with typical Spanish characteristics and definitely preferred playing on fast courts, especially on grass, where he emphasized his qualities like serve, volley and slide. He was never a great player, but he stayed on the main tour for many years winning 7 tournaments at the ATP Tour level. He showed a lot of quality in the first game here and I didn't really expect such an easy transition because he defeated the formidable Purcell in two sets and by a break difference. Max is a player straight from the challengers, but he is having a season of his life and you can say that he is knocking at the highest level tournaments, and he also likes grass courts. His style fits well on this surface as he serves well, has a net pull due to his doubles experience and likes to slide. I was convinced that he would do more harm to the Spaniard, mainly because he is about to be 42 years old, and recent results have not been optimistic and it seems that it is high time to end his career. Off the grass, unfortunately, Feliciano does not play a significant role anymore due to age and condition, so the tournament in Spain is a perfect finish, although it would be better if it was Wimbledon. The organizers of this tournament liked to give wild cards to players who are ending their adventure with tennis, and here, unfortunately, they did not give it to such a legend, and even Goffin and a few players with questionable form got it. Two words are due to Thompson, who has recently played his best tennis and I will not exaggerate when I say that he is experiencing a second youth. Final in Hertogenbosch, then a good start in London and now in the first round a sure win over Gasquet. I think that Lopez will play his good tennis again, and Thompson does not necessarily have to play 100%, because it is worth postponing a high disposition to Wimbledon, and this one in a few days. Purely sportingly, the Spaniard has a right to put up a fight as long as the service is up and running, but Jordan must be given credit for the quality of his rallies, as he is extremely sly and cunning - in short, very inconvenient. The direct balance is also negative, because the gentlemen played each other four times and Lopez broke off the set only once, so it is not optimistic.
