Sometimes it is a blessing if the Champions league calendar offers you easier games in rounds 3 and 4. It is a great booster for a whole team if you are able to do the job. Yes, I am talking about Sporting who lost the first two group games. I do not wanna say it will be easy but Besiktas is clearly the weakest side of the group. 6 wins in October for Sporting, can not get better than that.

Besiktas lost 5 out of the last 7, it is a big mess as a team. They are fourth in the league and lost a bit of touch with leaders already. Losing 5 last European matches shows they might not be ready for such a high-level competition as they scored only 4 goals while conceding 16. If we look at the stats we clearly see they spend most of the time defending, surrendering the ball to the opponent, and trying to counter. Only 5 shots on target so far in the Champions League is one of the lowest next to AC Milan. As a team, they look awful.

All in all, it is hard to see any other outcome than Sporting win tonight. All the motivation is on their side to make the job done. They need to take these 3 points to stay alive for the 2nd place in the group. And I expect them to go out and dominate the game from the beginning.
