Benjamin Bonzi has had a pretty respectable start to his season and has been competitve against some tough opponents. In fact, all of his tour losses this year have gone 3 sets, including a tough loss to Rublev and an impressive showing against Sinner in Indian Wells. Bonzi has displayed a toughness and confidence that has grown as his trajectory has begun to steepen.

Tommy Paul is coming off a shocker of a win against Zverev in Indian Wells. He’s made some deep runs in solid fields this season and has been playing his best tennis of his career since Fall of 2021. These two met earlier this season in Adelaide and Bonzi lost in straight sets, though pushing Paul to a tiebreak in the second.

While Paul in front of the US crowd is a good bet to win, Bonzi riding in on a wave of confidence will be a strong test for him and I wouldn’t be shocked if Bonzi were finally able to sustain a stretch of overpowering tennis that sees him through to the next round in 3 sets.
